2 killed, 2 injured in Cass County crash

Two people were killed in a traffic accident after losing control due to poor road conditions Sunday morning, officials said.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Douglas Erhart, 62, and Donna Erhart, 67, both of Murdock, were killed after colliding with a vehicle driven by Karla Manzel.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 75, just north of Highway 1.

CCSO said an investigation determined the Erhart’s car lost control due to road conditions, crossed into another lane and collided with Manzel’s vehicle.

Douglas and Donna Erhart were pronounced dead at the scene.

Manzel and a female passenger, identified as Elizabeth Schroeder, were taken to UNMC with non life-threatening injuries.

Officials said seatbelts were in use at the time of the accident, and that road conditions are believed to be the primary factor in the accident.
