2-year-old on bike dies after being hit by SUV in eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 2-year-old boy died Sunday after being hit by an SUV in Eagle.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 2:40 p.m. near Sixth and E streets.

Whit Richards was riding a small toddler bicycle when he entered the intersection and was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Richards’ father and several bystanders tried to save the boy’s life.  He was taken to a Lincoln hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing.  The sheriff’s office said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
