LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 23-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday in Saunders County, authorities say.

First responders were sent to the crash on County Road 10, just southeast of Mead, shortly after 6 a.m.

A 23-year-old Bennington woman was driving north in a Ford F-250, according to the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary investigation found that the pickup truck went off the road and the driver overcorrected.

The pickup went off the other side of the road and rolled, ending up on its top, the sheriff’s office said.

The passenger, 23-year-old Bryce Budz of Ashland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken by helicopter to an Omaha hospital in critical condition.

Authorities think that alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts, according to the sheriff’s office.

Correction: Authorities initially said one of the occupants was not wearing a seat belt. The article has since been updated.
