Lincoln, Neb. (KLKN) — Start planning now because this weekend is full of family-friendly and date night-worthy events, so grab your family, partner or a few friends and head to one, or a few, of the 28 events below.

 

OMAHA:

Men’s College World Series Opening Ceremonies — Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Kick off another year of the College World Series with an opening ceremonies party at Charles Schwab Field. Be there as the eight teams of the 2022 Men’s College World Series are introduced. A firework show will light up the night sky to conclude the event. Admission is free and open to the public.

Men’s College World Series — Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 26, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Welcome to the “Greatest Show on Dirt!” Enjoy tailgating with fans from across the country, and in between games, explore Omaha’s world-renowned attractions and friendly neighborhoods.

Minion Mayhem Family Fun Weekend — Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This minion-themed, fun-filled event will feature a dance party, crafts to take home, and a photo op with a minion, so be sure to have your cameras ready.

Power Hour at The Backline Comedy Theatre — Friday, 10 p.m.

The Backline Comedy Theaters Power hour is packed with Nebraska’s greatest comedians doing their best material. Each comedian has only three minutes to impress the crowd and land the chance to come back and close out the show. Enjoy an hour of fast-paced, high-energy comedy as Rachel Ware hosts this notoriously sold-out show. 18-plus (or under with a parent or guardian). $10 per person.

13th Annual Polishfest — Saturday, noon to 11 p.m.

Mark your calendars and plan to celebrate some of the great heritage of South Omaha with the always fun and lively PolishFest in the Beer Garden!! There will be an Outdoor Beer Garden with a variety of Polish beer, live music, Polish food from the Ale House Grill featuring Frank Stoysich Polish sausage, pierogi and cabbage rolls. Families welcome. Leashed dogs allowed.

Omaha Freedom Festival — Saturday, noon to midnight

This is a historical and cultural celebration as well as an educational and entertaining event. You can partake in arts and crafts, carnival games, food catering, entertainment and more. Stick around for a concert beginning at 7 p.m. (Additional cost to attend). Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

World Refugee Day — Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

World Refugee Day is an annual event to honor and celebrate the contribution of refugees and immigrants to Nebraska. Enjoy live performances, food trucks, art activities, educational booths and more activities that showcase the talents and culture of refugees in our community. Free parking.

OUTSIDE OMAHA:

“Day by Day” Part 1 showing — Until July 29

From 1993 to 1997, the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program would have one of the most dominant eras in college football history, despite being plagued with controversy, injuries and tragedy. What was more amazing than the three national titles in four years was how they did it. This limited local run showcasing Part 1 of the “Day by Day” documentary series is only showing at the all new Granary Green! Part 2 is coming in fall of 2022.

Dinosaur Day — Thursday, ages 0-5, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; all ages, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Go to the La Vista City Hall Campus for a fun story time (look for Dino the Dinosaur!) which will also be broadcast on Facebook Live.  Then, in the afternoon at the library, dinosaur grab-n-go fun kits will be available. At 2 p.m., head over to the library to create a fun sidewalk chalk dinosaur drawing!

LINCOLN:

Glow Golf Tournament — Friday, 8 p.m.

Join the Hickman Area Chamber for the first annual Glow Golf event at Pine Lake Golf Course in Lincoln. Price is $45 per person/$90 per team of two. Two-person alternate stroke, one glow ball per team. Green fees, pulled pork sandwich, chips and soda/water included. Pine Lake is a BYOB Golf Course, so feel free to bring your own libations.

Movies in the Park — Friday, 9 p.m.

Lincoln Parks and Rec is bringing “Tron: Legacy” to the outdoor big screen for a free showing at the Air Park Rec Center.  Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Movies will begin around 8:45-9:00 p.m., depending on sunset. In the case of inclement weather, the movies will be moved inside the Recreation Center.

LNK Outdoor Movie — Friday, gates at 6:30 p.m., movie at 9 p.m.

Food and Fun will begin around 6:30 p.m., and the movie will play at dark, which will be around 9:00 p.m. The event is located on the west side of the airport, in an open green space. “The Goonies” will be projected on the side of an old World War II hangar. Attendees can stay in their cars or bring blankets and chairs to sit in the grass. The movie event is free to the community, but you must have a ticket to attend.

Star City Pride — Friday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

SCP’s two-day festival features world-class entertainers, DJs, family-friendly activities and a parade. Star City Pride brings together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the spirit and culture of the LGBTQ community. Tickets required.

Community Free Market — Saturday, 10 a.m.

Bring a card table or blanket and display your giveaway items. Or come by to find some free stuff. Bring the kids and the dog; both are welcome.

Seng Park, N. 49th and Garland Streets

Goat Yoga at the Mall — Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Come join us this weekend inside Gateway Mall for a morning of snuggly goats and yoga (appropriate social distancing will be in place). Please use the public entrance next to Shoe Dept. Encore and remember to wear your cutest mask. Lincoln Yoga Center will be leading the class. Afterward, you are welcome to pose or spend extra time cuddling with the goats. Cost is $20 per person. Proceeds go to supporting the goats at Shepherd’s Rest, a Nebraska nonprofit corporation working to give goats and sheep a forever home.

Juneteenth Celebration — Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be live entertainment, food, fun for the kids and more. Everyone is welcome.

Trago Park, North 22nd and U Streets

Cars and Stars — Saturday, 5 p.m. 

Cars and Stars is a fun and free event for the entire family. Come for the cars and stay for the stars. There will be food trucks, raffle prizes, a bounce house and more. Come by to make memories with the family.

Branched Oak Observatory, 14300 NW 98th St., Raymond

Schroder Park Summer Social — Saturday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A family-friendly event featuring all sorts of fun and games, such as karaoke, yard games and food trucks.  Bring the family by to hang out with the neighbors.

GREENWOOD / ASHLAND:

Annual Father’s Day Car Show — Saturday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Celebrate Dad at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum’s second annual Father’s Day Car Show event. This two-day event features a wide range of vehicles nested under the wings of cold war aircraft. There will be fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, a DJ to get you grooving, vintage car photo ops,and much more.

Annual Testicle Festival — Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Testicle Festival is held annually on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend. You’ll see people eating beef fries, drinking ice cold beer, dancing to live music and participating in the Ball Eating Contest.

ELMWOOD / MURDOCK:

Waffleman in Murdock — Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Bring the family and come enjoy some delicious waffles. All proceeds from the event will go to the Murdock Historical Society and Museum. Cinnamon and red velvet waffles will be options.

NORTH PLATTE:

NEBRASKAland Days — Until Saturday, June 25, all day

NEBRASKAland Days is a celebration of Nebraska. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission organized the original festival, which debuted in Lincoln in 1965 with a spectacular parade that incorporated the best of Nebraska’s community and culture. Various events are happening each day, such as rodeo competitions, concerts and a quilt show. Check here for the complete schedule of activities.

Flapjack Feed — Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Grab some pancakes sponsored by the North Platte “Jaycees” Junior Chamber.  The North Platte Jaycees are a group of 21- to 40-year-olds finding community-oriented ways to give back. $6 per plate at entry.

HASTINGS:

Moms of Hastings Playdate — Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Join Moms of Hastings for a playdate at Libs Park/Splashpad. All moms are welcome. You do not need to be a current Moms of Hastings member or even have children old enough, or young enough, to play. Everyone is welcome to come and socialize. We hope to see you there.

SCOTTSBLUFF:

Bands on Broadway — Thursday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Join the Scottsbluff community for a free concert in the park. Pack some snacks and a cooler, grab some lawn chairs, and enjoy the beautiful weather while listening to some great tunes. There’s no better way to prepare for the weekend than an outdoor concert. Occurs every Thursday evening. Free admission.

NORFOLK:

City Auction — Thursday, 5 p.m.

The City of Norfolk will be auctioning off items from the city and police at the Annual City Surplus and Police Division Auction. Items range from jewelry to bikes and from cars to furniture. Items may be viewed two hours before the auction starts.  Be prepared to pay for items by check or cash on Thursday.

Battle of the Badges Blood Drive — Friday, noon to 6 p.m.

Every day, there is a need for 15,000 pints of blood for patients in 2,700 hospitals nationwide. The public is invited to participate in this friendly but competitive event. Everyone who gives blood can designate whether the police or fire department will get credit for the donation.

GRAND ISLAND:

Teen Anime Club — Thursday, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Make your own iron-on T-shirt using the Cricut machine while enjoying an animated movie. Ages 10-18. Patrons must register online or by calling the library.
