3,000-pound tree branch lays on Lincoln woman’s home after early morning storms

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Many people are picking up debris from overnight winds and rain Thursday morning.

For one homeowner, the powerful winds left a startling sight.

Jayne Beer and her son Corey said the last thing they saw was the rain coming down hard, before the phone rang.

“It’s like hard to believe that it just fell like that, we had no idea that was going to happen.” Corey said.

They said it’s the kind of damage you don’t necessarily expect to wake up to after a night of strong storms; maybe some things blown over or a small branch, but not a full-grown branch on top of the house.

“First I had a neighbor call me to try to tell me that it fallen on the house, and I didn’t hear the phone because I was sleeping,” Jayne said “So he called my husband and my husband called me so then I woke up and came out and saw this tree laying on the house.”

But there were no loud crashes or booms.

The Beer’s said they’re not comfortable going back inside the house while the tree is still there.

“We had a tree company come out already and he said that it’s about a 3,000 pound branch laying over the top of our house,” Jayne said. “So, I actually will not go inside and get ready for work. I’m just gonna go to work and what I have on if I have to.”

Jayne said her biggest takeaway from this is just being thankful.

“Extremely thankful that we were OK and that the house isn’t damaged as far as we can tell,” she said. “The things that have been damaged are replaceable, everything will be fine.”
