LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was shot and killed Sunday near downtown Lincoln, police say.

Around 11:50 a.m., officers were sent to 13th and E streets on the report of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found a 34-year-old Lincoln man with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

During an investigation, officers learned the victim and another person were walking on 13th Street when 41-year-old Timothy Washington drove up beside them.

Police said Washington shot the victim once in the chest.  He drove off, eventually ending up near 28th and Y streets.

Officers were called to that location just before 12:45 p.m. regarding a stabbing.

LPD said Washington stabbed a 40-year-old man in the neck and chest before leaving the area in a stolen vehicle, leading officers on a chase.

The victim was transported to this hospital where he remains in stable condition, according to LPD.

LPD said the pursuit ended just after 1 p.m. in the area of Ninth and Benton streets.

Washington was lodged for first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Additional charges for the stabbing, stolen vehicle and pursuit will likely be forthcoming, LPD said.

LPD is waiting to release the name of the homicide victim until his next-of-kin is notified.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
