40 Lincoln businesses ticketed for selling tobacco to minors, LPD reports

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several businesses were cited over the summer for selling tobacco to minors, the Lincoln Police Department says.
On Friday, LPD released the results from its alcohol and tobacco compliance project, which ran from July to September.
During the project, LPD assigned undercover officers to work overtime on days, nights and weekends to combat “the ongoing problem” of selling alcohol and tobacco to minors.
Police said the effort helps ensure the compliance of tobacco and alcohol sales to minors, while also reducing fatal and serious “impaired-related” injury crashes.
In total, officers visited 209 businesses and issued 42 citations.
Of those 42 businesses, 40 were ticketed for selling tobacco or nicotine to minors. The other two were cited for selling alcohol to minors, according to LPD.
