50-year-old inmate convicted of manslaughter dies at Lincoln prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –  A 50-year-old inmate died Tuesday at the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said Kak Thoan was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members tried to save his life, but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Thoan was serving a 55- to 60-year sentence for manslaughter in Douglas County.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating Thoan’s death, corrections officials said.

A grand jury will also investigate Thoan’s death, as required by Nebraska law.
