51-year veteran of Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office passes away

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office announced that a long-time member of the agency died Wednesday. 

Norman Monroe worked for Sheriff’s Office for 51 years. 

He passed away Wednesday at Tabitha from natural causes. 

Monroe was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1953-1957. 

He joined the Lincoln Police Department in January of 1958 and served until January of 1960. 

On June 1, 1960, Monroe was commissioned as a Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff.

He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 1978.

Monroe was well known at the Nebraska State Capitol where he served civil process to the Secretary of State, the Attorney General and the Governor’s Offices.

After serving as a Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff for 37 years, Norm retired.

When the Sheriff’s Office returned to the newly renovated Justice and Law Enforcement Center in November 1999, Monroe was hired as a Building Security Officer for the facility.

He served 14 years in that position, until retiring again in November 2013 at the age of 79, having served the Sheriff’s Office for 51 years and citizens of this community for 53 years as a law enforcement officer.
