6-year-old Indian rhino makes debut at Omaha zoo
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 6-year-old Indian rhino now calls Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium its home.
Brian, who arrived from Ohio’s Columbus Zoo last month, made his public debut in the Asian Highlands exhibit on Sunday.
In a press release Wednesday, officials said Brian will be paired with Hellary, a 15-year-old female Indian rhino, once he’s acclimated to his new home.
“Brian was eating vegetables and browse within a few minutes of arrival in Omaha, and then began vocalizing back and forth with our female, Hellary,” said Ryan Sears, the zoo’s curator of large mammals.
Indian rhinos are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
There are about 4,000 native Indian rhinos in India and Nepal.
