63-year-old man life-flighted after crash

A 63-year-old man had to be flown to the hospital by medical helicopter after a crash near Beaver Lake.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said a 1992 Chevy pickup truck driven by Leonard Kaffenberger, 63, of Murray, was struck from behind by a 2015 Ford Fusion driven by Ashley Baumgart, 22, of Plattsmouth, along Highway 75 on Monday. 

CCSO said Kaffenberger’s truck was launched into the northbound lane and struck by a 2015 Dodge Durango driven by Mariah Husen, 26, of Nebraska City. 

Kaffenberger was taken by Lifeflight to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. 

CCSO said Husen and a 10-month-old infant were also transported to UNMC.

Baumgart was taken by ambulance to Nebraska Medicine in Bellevue. 

The investigation is ongoing.
