74-year-old Lincoln woman lost $25,000 in Facebook scam, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are investigating after a Lincoln woman lost $25,000 in a scam on Facebook.
A 74-year-old woman reported the scam Wednesday at the Lincoln Police Department’s public service desk.
The victim was using Facebook Marketplace when she found that her account had been hacked, police said.
She thought she called the customer service line, but the man on the phone told her to withdraw $25,000 and convert it to bitcoin.
Police said the man also asked her to provide a copy of her driver’s license and Social Security number.
The woman realized she was being scammed when the man asked her to take out more money, according to police.
