77-year-old accused of killing Wahoo girl in 1969 extradited to Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man charged in a homicide case that went cold for 55 years has been extradited to Nebraska.
The Saunders County Jail said 77-year-old Joseph Ambroz was booked on Friday.
Ambroz was arrested Monday in Oklahoma on suspicion of first-degree murder.
He is accused of killing 17-year-old Mary Kay Heese in 1969.
Her body was found in a roadside ditch south of Wahoo.
Because the slaying happened so long ago, prosecutors said they want to move forward quickly with the case.
A motion filed Friday in Saunders County District Court says many of the witnesses are old — one is 87 — and have health problems.
“Time is of the essence to preserve the testimony of these critical witnesses,” the filing says.
Judge Christina Marroquin scheduled Ambroz’s arraignment for Monday.
