80 UNL engineering teams showcase yearlong projects

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Engineering students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln showed off what they’ve been working on this year on Friday.
The College of Engineering hosted its annual Senior Design Showcase at Kiewit Hall.
Over 80 teams presented projects that were assigned to them at the beginning of the year.
Some national and international businesses and organizations sponsored the UNL student teams. Some of the projects include:
-
A design and prototype of a rapid, efficient heating device to use in blood testing
-
A system to improve emergency response times for rural crashes, using sensors mounted on guardrails that will alert first responders
-
Adaptive devices that can help people with disabilities participate in sports
-
A system to test how much weight shelves used in retail chain stores can hold
UNL students Justin Kleen and Liam O’Malley said being able to show their work is important since they spend so long on it.
“Even though it’s not necessarily a reward, it is like a reward, just being able to show that you learned a lot,” O’Malley said.
The event was open to the public, and participants could vote on their favorite project.
