80 veteran grave markers stolen from cemetery in eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Dozens of veteran grave markers were stolen from an eastern Nebraska cemetery, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The theft was reported at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery on Feb. 23.

Someone stole 80 bronze grave markers, which are about the size of a dinner plate and vary in style and design.

The markers list the veteran’s military branch and dates of service and are mounted next to the headstone.

The missing grave markers:

  • Civil War – 9
  • Spanish American War – 1
  • WWI – 12
  • WWII – 26
  • Korean War – 18
  • Vietnam – 10
  • Veteran – 4
