LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was ticketed in a crash involving an ambulance, police said Friday.

The crash happened about 3:15 p.m. Thursday at 48th and O streets.

Police said the ambulance was going south on 48th when it was hit by an eastbound SUV.

It was taking a patient to a hospital and had its lights and sirens on, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Based on witness accounts, police think the ambulance had a red light but took the necessary precautions trying to cross O Street.

The driver of the SUV, an 85-year-old man, was cited on suspicion of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Police called it an injury crash but did not specify the extent of the injuries.
