87-year-old Lincoln man says reckless drivers keep damaging his property
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A vehicle hit an 87-year-old Lincoln man’s home last week, and he says it’s not the first time something like this has happened.
On Wednesday, a head-on collision occurred at 10th and A streets when one car turned the wrong direction on 10th Street.
Police said the driver ran a red light and the crash caused that vehicle to drive through Clarence Gunn’s front yard, damaging his front door and the side of his home.
There is an estimated total of $20,000 in damage to his property.
Gunn said he was not home at the time.
“When I got home, I had all of this mess laying here and my house all messed up,” he said.
Just a day later, another car drove onto his lawn, leaving tire marks and debris.
And the week before, two vehicles ended up on the front and sides of his lawn.
He has lived in this house for 54 years and has seen similar instances in the past.
But he said it has never been this bad.
Gunn is hoping the city can do something about this; he wants the timing of the lights to be changed.
“It gives the person that likes to run the red lights time to get through before an accident happens,” he said. “That would help.”
Gunn is hoping to find someone to repair the damage done to his home soon.
But he said the hardest part is no longer being able to keep a clean yard, which is something he took pride in when he moved in.
“I just see the damage to my yard,” he said. “I used to have a nice hedge all the way around my yard, a nice full hedge. I kept trying to keep it nice, but over time, there’s more and more accidents here.”
