Nebraska could set a goal for share of young adults with postsecondary degree
The goal is to have 70% of Nebraskans age 25-34 have some type of postsecondary degree
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Currently 58% of Nebraskans age 25-34 have some form of postsecondary degree. Legislative Resolution 335 would set a statewide goal of having 70% of Nebraskans in that age group have some form of postsecondary degree.
The main point of the resolution is to have Nebraska be competitive with other states and nations and attract and retain businesses and industries that require highly skilled employees and pay high wages.
University of Nebraska President Ted Carter explained how this resolution and goal will help Nebraska thrive in the future.
“If we’re going to grow the state of Nebraska, we’ve got to be able to develop and find the right talent for the jobs that were needed,” he said. “And this is an ever-growing problem. Even if we’re at one of the lowest unemployment rates in our history, we still have a growing number of jobs that need to be filled.”
The resolution still needs to be approved by the Legislature. There will be a public hearing on March 23, and the resolution is scheduled to be voted on, on April 12.
