UPDATE: McDonalds plans to reopen Friday afternoon after carbon dioxide issue.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to a McDonald’s this morning for an issue inside the restaurant.
It happened at the one block just south of 10th and Araphoe just after 6:30am
LFR says a carbon dioxide tank began leaking inside, causing a layer of CO2 to form in the air around the leaking tank. The building was quickly evacuated and crews went in to stop the leak.
"We monitored the atmosphere inside the restaurant to make sure that no oxygen has been displaced," said Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg. "That, of course, is the problem with the carbon dioxide is that it would displace the oxygen."
Crews say no one was hurt in the incident. They say it’s going to take some time before they can fix the tank. The Health Department is on scene and will still need to clear the building for use.
