Cappy’s Hotspot Bar and Grill held a fundraiser in honor of Dom Walker, an 11–year–old boy who police say was hit by a drunk driver while on his bike.

“So many people donated stuff.  We’ve been handed checks from multiple different corporations and everybody just wants to see Dom get better and want to try to support us and Dom however they can. It’s just awesome,” says Dan Walker, Dom’s dad.

This was the first fundraiser both Dom’s mom and dad were able to make it to together. Now that Dom is out of the ICU, they try to come to as many as possible to show their gratitude.

“Somebody is always there with him. We’re there with him from the time he wakes up until the time he goes to sleep,” says Dan Walker.

The fundraiser includes a silent auction, raffle tickets, live bands and t–shirts to support Dom. Our own Rod Fowler was their to emcee the event. People and businesses from all over the area donated items to be auctioned off. The Walker’s say they couldn’t be more grateful.

“We show Dom his page everyday and we read him some of the comments, especially the ones we think are really funny,” says Michele Walker, Dom’s step mom.

The Walkers said there have been many improvements to be thankful for. Dom can whisper, but not too much. He also likes to play catch. He has started to remember things, but has no memory of the accident. The latest accomplishment?

“We had our first family meal together yesterday,” says Michele Walker.

“We asked him what was the first thing he wanted and he said tacos,” says Dan Walker.

His parents have explained the accident to him, but the one thing he doesn’t know is that his race bike that he was hit on is ruined.

“When he goes ‘Dad where’s my bike?’ I’m going to be like ummm let me get your mom she can answer that,” says Dan Walker.

In the end, 300-400 people showed up for the event that raised more than 7,000 dollars for Dom’s medical expenses. There are more upcoming fundraisers to be held for Dom. The next will be at Pizza Ranch on November 7th, where 20 percent of the proceeds will go to Dom and his family, if you mention his name.
