It’s been a deadly few days on Southeast Nebraska roads.

The latest, in Waverly, where 21-year-old Benjamin White died after crashing his motorcycle.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says White lost control, hit a guard rail and was thrown from his bike.

He died at the scene. Officials say he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

In a statement to Channel 8, White’s family said:

“Ben was an amazing son, brother, father, and friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. His life’s passions included spending time with his friends and family, hunting and fishing. His daughter, Mille, was the love of his life.”

This is the third fatal crash in the county in three days, the fourth in just a week.

“I don’t remember three fatal crashes in three days nor do I remember four fatal crashes in a week. This is an unusually high number,” Sheriff Terry Wagner, Lancaster County, said.

On Monday, 57-year-old doctor Douglas Dalke was killed while riding his bike near 54th and Saltillo Road.

Everett Hoesing, 26, of Kansas is charged with felony vehicle homicide and DUI in Dalke’s death.

Authorities say Hoesing was twice the legal limit when he struck and killed the doctor.

On Sunday, a crash near Elmwood killed two people including 22-year-old Emily Widger of Lincoln.

Earlier that day, a 50-year-old man died after a driver rear-ended the car he was in near Highway 77 and Raymond Road.

And last Thursday, a man was killed near Denton when another driver tried to pass in a no passing zone.

Deputies have discussed strategies to help reduce the number of fatal crashes, but Wagner said that’s hard to do.

“Of the four we’ve seen this past week, there doesn’t seem to be a common denominator. It’s real difficult to develop an enforcement strategy to try to reduce the number of serious crashes,” he said.

Deputies are still investigating the motorcycle crash in Waverly. They said there is an autopsy scheduled to determine White’s official cause of death.
