LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that a student was taken into custody after making threatening statements, pointed toward other students.

Sheriff Clarence Wrede said he was made aware of concerns on Monday.

He determined the threats were credible after speaking with parents, classmates and school officials.

Authorities questioned the student Tuesday morning away from campus, before taking them into custody.

Boyd County Public Schools sent a letter to parents on Tuesday afternoon saying that teachers and students at the school for fifth through 12 graders “were notified of the situation during first period today.”

Wrede said he and school officials are closely monitoring the situation to keep the students of Boyd County safe.

“We strongly urge every parent to reiterate with his or her child that these sorts of comments are not funny, or a game,” the school district said in its letter.
