Serving Hands project sparks conversation in Lincoln

You’ve no doubt seen them as you drive around Lincoln – the sculptures of hands, positioned on the corners of busy intersections or in the lawn of a business.

They’re all a part of the Serving Hands project, run by Campus Life in Lincoln.

39 sculptures, all six feet tall, are situated around Lincoln, each designed by a different artist.

They vary from patriotic, to nature-inspired, to Husker themed.  The “Spiderman” sculpture at 27 & Capital Parkway, even drawing some criticism and national attention.

Project Director Liz Shea-McCoy says no matter what you think about the sculptures, one thing is for sure: they’ve got people talking.

“We’re just really proud of what Serving Hands has done to spearhead the enthusiasm for the arts in this community, and also give every person something in common to talk about,” Shea-McCoy said.

The creators of the project are now calling on Nebraska photographers, professional and amateur, to submit photos of the sculptures to be featured in a book of the project upon is completion. You can submit your photos to servinghandslincoln@gmail.com or via Facebook to ServingHandsLincoln in a message.
