LATEST: Man cited after two huskies were found dead inside of a Lincoln apartment

UPDATE: Animal Control has cited an 18-year-old after two huskies were found dead in a Lincoln apartment building.
Animal Control Manager Steve Beal said the man, who owned the two dogs, was cited for animal neglect and duty to remove a dead animal.
Beal said the man had left Lincoln to visit another part of Nebraska, and had not been to the apartment for some time.
The citations carry the potential of $300 in fines, but Beal said it will ultimately be up to a judge to decide final punishment.

Last Friday Lincoln Animal Control was called to this apartment complex at 28th and F street after a landlord found two huskies dead inside.
The landlord was alerted to the room after neighbors inside complained about a bad smell.
After Lincoln Animal Control went into the apartment room they noticed that the dogs did not have a food or water bowl. But after an examination starvation was not a cause of death to both of the dogs.
“Part of the necropsy involved examining the dogs their stomach and contents of there were any in it. We ruled out just yesterday afternoon by University vets that the dogs did not die of starvation,” Steve Beal the Manager of Lincoln Animal Control said.
In the examination they found some tissue damage and one broken rear leg on one of the dogs. They believe the broken leg came after the dog got caught in a curtain cord inside the home.
“I talked personally to veterinary pathologists yesterday and I asked can you say without any doubts that the dogs did die something like blunt force trauma or intentionally and he said no,” Beal said.
As of right now Lincoln Animal Control is still trying to locate the owner of the apartment room in an attempt to get the full picture of what happened to both of the dogs.
