Omaha Police Shooting

Authorities have identified a teenager killed by a police officer — an officer who has been involved in two other shootings.

Chief Eric Buske says 17-year-old Jovan Reed died at an Omaha hospital after last night's shooting.

The shooting stemmed from a traffic stop shortly after 10 p.m. in northeast Omaha. Buske says Reed got out of his car after being stopped and pointed a gun at police.  Buske says Officer Frank Platt then shot Reed.    Buske says investigators don't believe Reed fired ashot.

Buske says investigators found crack cocaine in a plastic bag next to Reed after he was shot.

In 2003, Platt shot Albert Rucker, who had run from police after he shot Officer Jason “Tye'' Pratt. Pratt later died.

Platt also was involved a shootout in 2005, in which another officer was shot in the leg. The gunman was shot, but survived. Platt and two others at the scene of last night's shooting are on administrative leave.
