Severe Weather Potential:

Isolated strong-to-severe storms are possible this evening, before precipitation chances drift east over the next couple of days. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place from north-central to southwestern Nebraska.

While not everyone will experience severe weather this evening, those who see the strongest storms could see up to quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

Above is a look at the latest run of StormCast, showing showers and thunderstorms forming along the cold front this evening. Chances for scattered showers and storms move into eastern Nebraska on Tuesday and Wednesday.

With several rounds of rainfall possible through midweek, the risk for flash flooding increases in southeast Nebraska. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of excessive rainfall in southeast Nebraska.

Here is a look at model estimates for rainfall by early Thursday morning. A half inch to an inch of precipitation is expected along and south of Interstate 80, though locally higher totals will be possible.

Forecast:

Overnight temperatures will range from the 50s out west to the upper 60s and 70s in the east ahead of the incoming cold front.

Expect cloud cover to increase through the overnight hours in Lincoln, with a few stronger wind gusts at first. A few light showers will be possible ahead of the morning commute as dissipating storms arrive from the west.

Tuesday will feature cooler temperatures with highs in the 70s for most. This arrives alongside the chance for showers and thunderstorms, especially in eastern Nebraska.

Tuesday morning features temperatures in the upper 60s for the Capital City, with minimal heating through the afternoon. Chances for scattered showers and storms increase after lunch.

Temperatures recover for the end of the work week, with seasonable temperatures by the weekend. A few scattered storm chances linger in the forecast first for this weekend and the middle of next week, though forecast clarity remains low at this time.
