UPDATE: Suspect in hit-and-run of 11-year-old Seward boy located

UPDATE: Seward Police say the woman suspected of leaving the scene of the accident has been located.

The boy’s mother was working in Lincoln when she got the call from her husband about the hit-and-run.

“Anyone should know too stop and help and not just leave anyone in the street whether it’s a child or an adult person, it’s incredibly disappointing,” said Christine Douglass. “I’ve been trying to be as calm as I can for my son and my family.”

This is her message for adults driving in the community:

“We have those bigger vehicles that it doesn’t matter if the kids are doing the right thing or not, they are going to be hurt if we don’t pay attention,” said Douglass.

There is no word yet on if the woman who fled the scene was charged.

This is a developing story, we will continue to provide more updates as they become available.

Seward Police are asking for the public’s help locating a driver they say ran over an 11-year-old boy Tuesday night.

Seward Police say the boy was struck and run over by the car while crossing the street on his bicycle near North 1st Street and Hillcrest Drive. The driver got out of her car, but police say she didn’t leave any information.

The boy’s mother told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that her son suffered contusions all over his body, an injury to his chin, and a chipped tooth.

She said he is back home after spending most of Tuesday night in a hospital room.

So far, attempts to locate the driver have been unsuccessful.

The vehicle is described as a maroon or red SUV or crossover. Police described the driver as a white female, possibly in her 50s. She was wearing a white shirt and black pants at the time of the accident.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 402-643-2579, or Seward County Crimestoppers at 402-643-3334.
