SOURCE: Huskers running back Greg Bell leaves team

LINCOLN, Neb. – Junior running back Greg Bell has left the Nebraska football team, a source told KLKN-TV Friday morning.

Originally included in the Huskers’ 74-man travel roster, Bell opted not to make the trip to Wisconsin. Other players learned of Bell’s decision to leave the team before their departure to Madison.

KLKN-TV reached out to Nebraska Athletics for confirmation but didn’t receive a reply.

Bell, a JUCO transfer from Arizona Western Community College, joined the team in January and began the 2018 season as the starting running back. The junior amassed 173 yards on 35 carries this season. With a new rule allowing players to redshirt and still participate in four games, Bell is the second player to leave the Huskers at the four-game mark of the season.

Bell was a two-time JUCO All-American at Arizona Western. With a depth chart shakeup this week, he moved behind senior Devine Ozigbo into the No. 2 running back role for the first time this season after toting the ball just twice against Purdue.

The university will not comment until after Saturday night’s game at Wisconsin.
