‘A big production of positivity’: Lincoln man runs 50 miles in one day for charity

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man holds a challenge each month to push his limits and gather donations for a local nonprofit.

Kevin McCaffrey runs 50 miles around Holmes Lake from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“I’m going to run a lot anyway because I love distance running,” he said. “Always training for something, whether it’s a marathon or an ultra or something shorter even. Why not do something with these miles and the time that I’m spending training instead of just training?”

In January, he ran to support the Food Bank of Lincoln. And in February, he supported the Special Olympics.

On Sunday, McCaffrey ran to benefit Girls on the Run of Nebraska, a youth development nonprofit.

He said the inspiration behind these runs comes from many people, including the owner of a local running store, who has helped him along the journey.

McCaffrey said Lori Borer of Fleet Feet helps him come up with ideas and get the word out.

“She’s super positive, encouraging, someone I need when I’m running for hours and hours and I get pretty darn tired,” he said.

McCaffrey encourages anyone who can to join in on the run.

You can visit the Facebook event page to find out how you can participate and help his charity of the month.

McCaffrey said meeting new people is the best part of the day.

“We want to bring more people in,” he said. “Because whoever we’re supporting, like Girls on the Run, we want them to get as much as possible ’cause we believe in what they’re doing. I get company, too, because I’m inviting people. Come out and run with me, come out and take a walk, say hi, think about donating to the group I’m supporting today.”
