A bitter cold night ahead, turning warmer on Monday

Unfortunately, forecasting is an imperfect science – and Saturday goes to show for it. Guidance over the last week suggested that many in southeast Nebraska would see their first impactful snowfall of the season. However, it became evident on Saturday morning that dry air came to ruin the fun, reducing snow accumulations in the process.

Snow has come to an end as of Saturday evening. We’ll continue to see the clouds on Saturday evening, but skies clear and winds relax overnight and into Sunday morning. We’re waking up to clear skies on Sunday morning, with low temperatures almost 10° below zero!

Saturday Night Forecast

The sun will make its presence known on Sunday. It’ll be sunny and cold, with high temperatures in the upper teens to low-20s. Wind speeds will be lower on Sunday as well

Sunday Forecast

Temperatures rise into the 30s on Monday and 40s on Tuesday. Above-freezing temperatures on those days will melt most of the snow accumulation from New Year’s Day.

A cold front passes on Tuesday which will drop temperatures by mid-week. Another upper-level disturbance arrives Wednesday night, which has a *chance* of bringing a few snow showers to some in Nebraska.

I emphasize the word chance because the storm system could track in a way that entirely misses us. This does not appear to be a strong system, so even if these snow showers can clip us, they aren’t looking too significant right now. Either way you slice it, we turn cooler for the second half of next week!
