A brief cooldown; Dealing with a dry slot on Tuesday

While Sunday featured temperatures in the 70s, a weak surface boundary passed through. This will set us up for a cooler Monday, also with more cloud cover. Embedded within these clouds, there’s a small chance to see a spotty shower or two. We’re otherwise mostly cloudy and mostly dry.

Afternoon highs will be in the upper-50s to near 60° for most of the area. This is closer to normal for this time of year. We also expect an ENE breeze sustained at around 10-20 mph.

Monday Forecast

As we head into Monday night, low clouds will likely remain. Again, a spotty shower isn’t totally impossible. These likely won’t be big rainmakers. Meanwhile, snow will be ongoing in northwest Nebraska as early as Monday morning in some regions. However, that precipitation becomes a lot more widespread on Monday night in western Nebraska.

That activity will continue in western Nebraska on Tuesday, whereas skies will clear by Tuesday afternoon in southeast Nebraska.

Stormcast Monday Night - Tuesday

There are several winter weather alerts in place for northwest Nebraska, including Blizzard Warnings. Winter Weather Advisories extend as far east as O’Neill and as far south as Stapleton.

Some areas of northwest Nebraska could be measuring snow in terms of feet, whereas areas closer to Scottsbluff and Valentine could see several inches. Totals quickly drop off closer to central Nebraska.

Winter Wx Potential

While that goes on in western Nebraska, the Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of far eastern Nebraska under a Level 2/5 risk for severe weather on Tuesday.

The best chance of seeing severe storms, and storms altogether, will be to the east. But there’s a chance that a line of storms could form on top of our eastern counties on Tuesday night.

Severe Wx Potential

Most of southeast Nebraska will be stuck in between the snow to the west and storms to the east. In other words, a dry slot will move overhead. This will result in sunshine for Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon, which could push highs close to 80°.
