A Christmas filled with sunshine and mild temperatures
Christmas Eve was a very warm day across southeast Nebraska with many locations shattering records. Grand Island reached 64°, breaking the record of 62° set back in 1917. Lincoln also shattered its record of 62° set back in 1889 by reaching 65°! Needless to say, we were unseasonably warm.
As of Friday evening, cloud cover has reentered the picture. We’re anticipating them to stay throughout much of the Friday evening, meaning that Santa might have to fly through some of these clouds.
It is possible that a few may find themselves under a light stray shower. However, those should be few and far between. As time gets closer to Christmas morning, expect skies to clear. Low temperatures on Christmas morning should be in the upper-20s.
Christmas day will be an absolute gem of a day filled with sunshine! Although temperatures will be slightly cooler, high temperatures will still be very mild. We’re forecasting a high of 55° in Lincoln.
During the evening hours on Christmas, we’ll be watching high clouds moving into the area yet again. While those will likely persist into Sunday afternoon, temperatures do appear to remain on the mild side on Sunday.
Temperatures start to cool off on Monday, but the passage of an upper-level disturbance on Tuesday will kickstart a pattern change that will cool us off even more by mid-week. That means temperatures near or below normal to start off the New Year – which is highs in the 30s and lows in the teens for this time of year.
