A few more days of heat, relief arrives soon
The heat continues to be the main story. We’ll see another afternoon with triple-digit air temperatures on Wednesday. We’re forecasting a high near 103° in Lincoln, which would tie the record high set back in 1943 and 1948.
Although we’ll see some sunshine, there will be more high clouds. This could give the sky more of a filtered sunshine appearance.
Although the humidity should be a touch lower compared to recent days, it will still be humid on Wednesday. We’re looking at peak heat indices will be near 110° in Lincoln. Heat index values should be slightly lower to the west, where we see even lower humidity.
Computer model guidance suggests that the humidity may drop even more on Thursday, although it still should be noticeable at times. Either way, the heat will compensate. We’re looking at triple-digit heat for another afternoon on Thursday.
The effect of heat stress on the body is cumulative. Considering how many days above 100° we’ll end up seeing this week, Thursday’s heat is still dangerous even if we manage to see less humidity.
RELIEF NOT TOO FAR AWAY
The heat dome that we’ve been tracking for the last week will drift south this weekend. This will allow 80s to return on Saturday and Sunday for highs. We’ll also be on the northern edge of the heat dome, resulting in a few small chances for rain Friday through Sunday.
