A hot Friday afternoon; Storms possible Friday night

UPDATE – 9:52 a.m. Friday:

Scattered morning showers in northern Nebraska have held together as the morning continues to progress.

Radar 9:52 a.m. Friday

If these can continue to hold their act together, areas farther south may start to see some widely scattered showers drifting south during the early afternoon, a bit sooner than originally anticipated. We’re otherwise dry this afternoon, with another chance for a scattered storm or two in the evening.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Unlike Thursday morning, we’re waking up to lots of sunshine to start Friday. We’ll keep the sun around for the morning hours, although a few clouds start to arrive as we get closer to the afternoon.

Temperatures will be hot on Friday, with lower and middle-90s in the forecast across southeast Nebraska. The humidity should also be a bit higher, which could push heat indices into the upper-90s in a few areas, at times.

Friday Forecast

By evening, skies will turn partly to mostly cloudy as a cold front approaches. Along that front, some scattered showers and storms may develop. These storms will likely bit hit-or-miss, meaning that they could dodge some locations. Nevertheless, this could affect some high school football games.

Game of the Week Forecast

The Storm Prediction Center has placed Lincoln under a “Marginal” risk for severe weather. This is the lowest category on the severe weather threat scale. Of any storms that do develop, there’s an outside chance that one or two may be on the stronger side.

Severe Weather Outlook

As we head into Saturday morning, the cold front passes through. This will result in a gorgeous weekend forecast with 80s for highs along with low humidity. This should make for great weather for the Husker home-opener.
