A Lincoln educator was honored in a special way Friday.

Kooser Elementary School Principal Ann  Jablonski is the 2015-2016 year’s National Distinguished Principal of the Year.

She will represent Nebraska.

LPS Superintendent Dr. Steve Joel and the Kooser students held an assembly in her honor.

The school’s namesake, U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser also was there.

Jablonski said  it’s humbling.

"No one goes into education thinking about awards. See and that’s not the reason for this work. It’s always nice to be recognized for your efforts,” Kooser Elementary Principal Ann Jablonski said.

"She’s a really marvelous principal and deserves every honor she gets,” U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser said.

Jablonski has been an educator for 40 years.

She’s helped open Kooser back in 2009.

She’ll be in Washington  D.C. for the recognition this fall.
