A local org holds webinars to educate girls about STEM
A rep says women who are looking for jobs may want to consider S.T.E.M.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Girls Code Lincoln is holding a webinar series with women in different stem, art, and entrepreneurship fields.
Girls can interact and ask questions in each webinar. These speakers are from all kinds of backgrounds. One is a local bakery owner, one is an oceanographer, another is in animation. And the list continues.
A rep says girls have to see what they can be in these fields and adds its time for representation to reflect the consumers in tech.
“Half of our consumers are women but our businesses, half the people making the decisions are not women this is particularly appalling because women actually created the path in tech so a lot of women have been very influential in tech a lot of the first female coders were women,” says Aakriti Agrawal, Girls Code Lincoln.
She says women who are looking for jobs may want to consider S.T.E.M. and adds S.T.E.M careers typically offer remote jobs for moms who want to work from home.
“The thing about tech is that you actually don’t need a degree in tech to work in tech and I think a lot of people don’t realize is that a lot of computer programmers are self-taught computer programmers,” said Agrawal. “So you can go online and there’s a lot of really good curriculum out there to learn about tech.”
