Longtime friend mourns loss of fatal crash victim, mother of three

Family and friends are mourning the loss of a friend, and mother of three.

It comes after a single vehicle crash last night.

26-year-old Heather Bodfield died after hitting a tree last night.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News spoke with a longtime friend of Heather’s on the phone. She didn’t want us to use her name.

She said she’s in shock.

“I just can’t really believe she’s gone right now,” the friend said. “She was so young.”

Lincoln Police said Bodfield was driving near 77th and A streets when she lost control and hit a tree just before 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

She died at the scene.

Heather’s lived in Lincoln for the last two years but  spent most of her life in Gothenburg.

She has three kids under eight years old.

Her friend said those kids were her whole world.

“What everyone should know about her is she loves her kids so much. More than anything,” she said.

She and Bodfield have known each other since 7th grade; she still remembers when they first met.

She said she was always there for her and was such a special person.

Family hasn’t made plans for a funeral yet.

Police don’t know what caused Bodfield to crash into the tree. They’re ordering an autopsy and analyzing photos to determine if speed was a factor.
