A nationwide soccer supporters group looks back on their roots here in Lincoln

The American Outlaws is a U.S. Soccer support group that has 200 different chapters and more than 30,000 members all over the United States who travel all over the world rooting for U.S. Men’s and Women’s soccer, and it all started here in Lincoln Nebraska.

“People around the nation, around the world, when they hear it start in Lincoln, they’re like are you kidding me,” Mark Purkoski Lincoln American Outlaw President.

When Justin and Cory founded the American Outlaws in 2007 there was no organized fan group throughout the country, and they wanted to change that.

“There wasn’t any sort of method to communicate with other fans around the country. There wasn’t any way to tell other fans like ‘hey this is where we are going to be why don’t you come to meet up with us. And so one day it’s like no we’re just going to create some sort of ability to build a website, flyers and were just going to make sure we are at every single game that there is, anywhere in the country and have a place for fans to meet up,” Justin Brunken Co-Founder of the American Outlaw.

Justin helped build this organization from the basement of his co-founder house, and to see the progress of the group is nothing short of amazing.

“It’s pretty incredible I mean we had no idea that we would get to 200 chapters when we first started this 12 or 13 years ago,” Brunken said.

The next time you watch any U.S. soccer game if you listen closely enough you can hear the American Outlaws.

“Whenever you hear it on TV you hear those drums banging and the songs being sung, that’s the American Outlaws,” Purkoski said.
