‘A neat deal’: Residents react to Lincoln’s current, future road improvements

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — During the State of the City speech on Tuesday, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird outlined her priorities, one of them being Lincoln’s roads.

She noted that the city has invested over $200 million in streets since 2019.

For example, improvements were recently made in the Potter, Indian Village and College View neighborhoods.

Many residents said they’re happy with the changes.

“I thought it was kind of a neat deal,” Sharon Maricle said.

She said some “chunks” that were in the road had been smoothed out.

“So now it’s nice and smooth and not as bumpy,” Maricle said.

But not everyone is happy with the projects.

A College View resident, who wouldn’t go on camera, told Channel 8 that the city started too many projects at the same time, making it harder to drive around.

The mayor said there will be more than $98 million available for more street improvements in the next two years.

“And that would be to both construct new streets and rehabilitate our existing streets network,” Gaylor Baird said.
