A nice day; More storm chances to follow
Monday is shaping up to be a great day outside. It will not be nearly as breezy as it was on Sunday, and the humidity won’t be too high either. Coupled with high temperatures in the low to mid-80s, we’re looking at a pretty nice day.
We’ll be partly cloudy overall along with mostly dry conditions on Monday. Even so, there is a small chance to see a few spotty showers as a weak disturbance travels through. These will not be big rainmakers, and some will miss out on them entirely.
Meanwhile, another round of storms will organize in western Nebraska late Monday afternoon and into the evening. These will likely weaken after sunset. Despite the weakening trend, scattered storms should still make it to eastern Nebraska overnight Monday.
There is a Level 2/5 risk for severe weather in southwest Nebraska for storms on Monday evening. Scattered areas of damaging winds and large hail are possible, especially in the yellow-shaded area. An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out.
A few more waves of scattered rain are possible throughout the day on Tuesday. After that, another round of strong storms organizes on Tuesday evening in western Nebraska.
For that reason, we have another Level 2/5 risk for severe weather on Tuesday evening. This includes a much wider area. While storms will likely be at their strongest in western parts of the state, storms will still survive their trip to eastern Nebraska overnight and into Wednesday morning.
UNSETTLED PATTERN IS HERE TO STAY
The unsettled weather pattern continues for the foreseeable future. A “hot dome” sits to our south all of this week, and that’s where the intense summer heat resides.
On the northern edge of this dome, several disturbances are riding the west-to-east flow aloft. This is resulting in a band of storminess that tracks right over Nebraska. This pattern remains at least for the rest of the week.
