A Novel Idea Bookstore raises money for Lincoln’s Little Free Libraries

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –  A local bookstore is raising money to help Lincolnites have access to free books.

A Novel Idea Bookstore in downtown Lincoln donated part of Friday’s revenue to its bin for Lincoln’s Little Free Libraries.

The initiative relies on books, as well as money donations.

“We use that money to buy books and put them in little libraries around town,” volunteer Lacey Losh said.

Losh said they focus on children’s books because those are the most popular and the ones that are quickly gone.

Volunteers run a Facebook group with information on the hundreds of free libraries. They also have an online map showing where the libraries are.

“As far as we know, there are 159 free libraries in the Lincoln area, and it’s possible that there are several more,” Losh said.

The group’s idea is to have a box available 24/7 for people to be able to take a book from or leave a book in.
