A package of eleven different education bills was introduced on Friday morning

In a press conference, some state lawmakers introduced eleven different education bills, ranging from training educators on mental health topics to funding the Youth Opportunities in Learning and Occupations Act, and much more.
“It’s critical that we make these types of investments in our young people. Now is the time more than ever,” Sen. Tony Vargas of Omaha said.
It also included a bill to review how public schools are financed through the Tax Equity Education Opportunities Act of 1990. Even though in the recently proposed state budget he announced there will be no proposed cuts in funding towards Nebraska Public Schools.
“We should remember that that has only happened three out of the last sixteen years, and that it has transferred burden to local property tax payers. We need a comprehensive review of the state’s school funding formula,” Sen. Wendy DeBoer of Omaha said.
The supporters of this whole package of bills believe if it were to all pass, it could lead to a massive change throughout the state.
“A strong state policy to focus in this area will pay long term dividends for educators and their students,” NSEA President Jenni Benson said.
