A prolonged stretch of heat starting this weekend

After a stormy night for many, conditions will dry out for the day on Friday. While an early morning stray shower is not impossible in southern Nebraska early Friday, we’re trending towards a drier direction.

Initially, we expect clouds to hang on. However, those will erode as the day wears on. By afternoon, we expect mostly sunny skies with a high temperature in the low-90s in Lincoln. However, it will likely be warmer to our south and west, with highs in the middle to upper-90s possible near Hebron, Red Cloud, and the Tri-Cities. We also expect Friday to be a lot muggier.

Friday Forecast

We expect clear skies overnight and into Saturday morning. Lows should be in the lower-70s, which is above normal for this time of year.

Friday Night Forecast

Temperatures continue to be above-normal on Saturday, with highs likely topping out in the upper-90s and into triple-digit territory in some areas. We’re even warmer on Sunday. This is a heat wave that will stick around even into early next week.

An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect starting Saturday afternoon for much of central and eastern Nebraska. This may be upgraded to a Heat Advisory or Excessive Heat Warning at some point Friday or Saturday.

Excessive Heat Watch

We finally crack the heat wave by the middle part of next week. We also have the chance for isolated to scattered storms by then too. It’ll be a short-lived relief from the heat as it appears to return by late next week.
