‘A terrible intersection’: Northwest Lincoln residents want changes after another crash
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A crash in northwest Lincoln on Monday night left dozens of people who live nearby concerned that the intersection is unsafe.
Dani Munderloh lives in an apartment complex down the street from the West Fletcher Avenue and Northwest Second Circle intersection.
She said the road is backed up every day during rush hour.
There is a stop sign on Northwest Second Circle, but traffic on West Fletcher keeps moving.
“School traffic, also Kawasaki traffic and just everyday residential traffic, people going to work,” she said. “So it’s nearly impossible to get out of there within, like, 10 minutes. You’re going to sit there forever.”

She said the traffic causes drivers to turn quickly without thinking, making it a dangerous spot.
“I’m having to make a split decision and step on the gas because cars just whip around way too fast coming from the west,” she said.
Another resident said she’s seen at least three crashes since moving into her apartment.
“A traffic signal would be nice,” she said. “A lot of kids live in this apartment building. There’s some that ride little dirt bikes around, electric dirt bikes. There’s been too many close calls with kids and the intersection. It’s just a terrible intersection.”
Brandon Bugarin, senior engineer with the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department, said officials use national traffic standards to decide what needs to be done at intersections.
“There’s been four crashes in this area” in the last year, he said. “There’s also an expected yearly vehicular movement of 5 million vehicles,” he said.
He said those numbers aren’t high enough to add a traffic light or roundabout.
But he said LTU will keep its eyes open for any more problems.
“We will continue to monitor it and have the data available to make improvements when necessary and warranted,” he said.
