A very comfortable Thursday; Storms possible Friday

A comfortable air mass will remain in place across southeast Nebraska for the day on Thursday. High temperatures will be in the upper-70s to near 80°, and the humidity will be low. Make sure to get outside and enjoy it, because Thursday’s humidity will likely be the lowest that we see in the near future.

Spotty showers will be possible in southwest and south-central Nebraska during the morning. These showers will run out of instability as they try to move into eastern Nebraska, so we expect dry conditions in the morning for areas closer to Lincoln.

As the day wears on, chances to see a spotty shower or two will increase for eastern Nebraska. By late afternoon and evening, we can’t rule a few of those showers closer to Lincoln.

However, the highest rain chance will arrive overnight Thursday and into Friday. A line of strong storms is expected to move from northwest to eastern Nebraska on Thursday night. Storms will be possible early Friday, and they could be followed by more scattered storm development into the afternoon.

There is a slight (Level 2/5) risk of severe weather for any storms that move through on Thursday night in western parts of the state. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary concerns. The severe weather threat is much lower to the east as these storms will be passing by in the nighttime and early morning hours.

Conditions will quiet down over the weekend, and temperatures will remain below average. While it will be cool, the humidity will begin to return. Nevertheless, you should be able to find plenty of dry time outdoors this weekend.
