Accumulating snow through Monday and Tuesday; dangerously cold this week

We have found the “on” switch for snow since last week. Accumulating snow will continue for most of the state through Monday evening, if not through Tuesday evening.

Lincoln and Omaha are included in the Winter Weather Advisory through 6 p.m. Monday evening. Plan on slippery road conditions especially for the morning commute, but the evening commute could also be impacted.

The rest of central, western and southern Nebraska will be under a Winter Weather Advisory through Tuesday evening.

Wwa Update

Additional areas of light to moderate snow will develop overnight tonight and through the daytime hours on Tuesday.

Winds will be out of the northeast during this timeframe, occasionally gusting up to 25 mph and at least minor areas of blowing and drifting snow can be expected.

Northwestern Nebraska and southern Nebraska will have the highest snowfall totals through Tuesday because of the additional snow that continues to develop over these areas over the next 24-48 hours.

Meanwhile the rest of the state is more likely to see around 2-4″ of snow, with lower amounts through northeast Nebraska.

And then we get dangerously cold.

Southeast Nebraska will be under a Cold Weather Advisory for wind chills expected to be as low as 25-30 below zero Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The rest of the state will be under an Extreme Cold Warning for wind chills as low as 30-35 below zero late Monday night through Thursday morning. Frostbite can happen in as little as TEN MINUTES under these dangerously cold conditions.

Cold Wx Alerts

Lincoln will be running around 20-30 below especially Tuesday through Thursday mornings. We’ve got some chances to set some cold records in the days to come, too, as the afternoons don’t warm all that much.

4 Day Wind Chill

Quickly, it’ll feel like a frozen tundra around here throughout this upcoming week. We’ll look to really warm up by this next weekend and beyond with the potential for 50s around the corner!
