Additional afternoon storms possible across southeast Nebraska before a couple dry days

An astounding 6-8″ of rainfall has been reported this morning in areas near Grand Island and up toward Columbus.

The pictures below include the radar-estimated rainfall across the area with colors, then the next two photos are rainfall totals across Nebraska from Wednesday, June 25, and rain midnight to 7 a.m. Thursday morning.

Update as of 7 a.m. Thursday morning: the Flood Watch has been cleared for all counties.

Additional storms will be possible this afternoon across southeast Nebraska, developing during the heating of the day along a boundary after about 1 -2PM Thursday. Storms would move east, southeast through the afternoon and evening hours to wrap up by 7-8PM Thursday night.

Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is in place for a damaging wind threat with a stronger storm or two.

Skies will clear tonight for some potential fog to impact the morning commute on Friday. Clouds will decrease throughout the day, leading to temperatures warming close to 90° once more. Friday and Saturday though will be those much-needed dry days in the forecast for all those that just saw a TON of rain.

This weekend looks hot again – especially counting on a heat index up near 103° on Saturday. On Sunday, storm chances will increase for the later part of the day.

Holiday celebrations should be wary that there could be storm potential leading up to and on the day of July Fourth. We will continue to keep an eye on that with more details to come as we get closer.
