Affidavit: Man arrested in Russ’s robbery after crashing into tree in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The man accused of robbing a Lincoln grocery store and assaulted an employee has been arrested.
Lukas Jarrett, 22, appeared in court for the first time on Monday and is facing charges in two separate crimes.
Just before 9 p.m. on April 2, officers were sent to Russ’s Market near 66th and O streets on the report of a robbery.
An employee at the store said she was working near the front of the building when she noticed Jarrett walk out of the store with several food items not in a bag.
The employee said she confronted Jarrett, asking him if he had a receipt. Jarrett didn’t answer and continued walking out of the store, the affidavit says.
She then asked again if he had a receipt, but police said Jarrett dropped the items and ran toward the employee, pushing her to the ground with both hands.
Jarrett then picked up his items and ran away, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

The employee had a scrape on her elbow, and the stolen items were worth $50.
On Thursday, Jarrett was identified through videos and still photos of the robbery on Crime Stoppers, according to the affidavit.
The next day, police were called back to the same Russ’s for a shoplifting incident. Employees said it was the same person responsible for the robbery.
Then, early Saturday morning, Jarrett was arrested near Second and A streets on suspicion of drunken driving.
According to an affidavit, a neighbor saw Jarrett driving recklessly through a neighborhood before crashing head-on into a tree.
Court documents say Jarrett fled the scene via the train tracks, and the neighbor told police where he ran.
Police said Jarrett was unsteady on his feet, smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech. The officer also said Jarrett had soiled himself.
Jarrett initially denied driving the vehicle and provided two false names and birthdays.
LPD was eventually able to identify Jarrett and placed him under arrested for an active warrant.
According to the affidavit, police put Jarrett in the back of a cruiser, where he became “extremely hostile.”
Officers had to pull Jarrett out of the vehicle, and police said he started to become violent with the officers.
According to the affidavit, Jarrett ended up kicking one of the officers in the stomach and another in the arm, causing pain to both.
Jarrett is charged with robbery and third-degree assault on an officer.
He is due back in court on May 20.
