After a cold start, we begin to warm on Friday afternoon

Our stretch of cold weather will temporarily come to an end – starting Friday afternoon! Friday morning still brought forth bone-chilling air, with temperatures in the single digits and wind chill values well below 0°.

While we wake up to some sunshine on Friday morning, we are watching a batch of cloudiness off to the west that will arrive after lunchtime in Lincoln. We’ll turn cloudy and breezy in the afternoon, but at least temperatures will be warmer compared to previous days. We’re forecasting a high of 30° in Lincoln.

Friday Forecast

An upper-level disturbance will be moving on by late Friday afternoon and evening, which could produce a few snow showers in northern Nebraska. We can’t completely rule out the possibility of seeing a flake or two on Friday evening in southeast Nebraska. However, there will be so much dry air in the lower atmosphere that your overall chance of seeing any flakes is slim.

We keep clouds around on Friday evening and for much of the overnight hours, but we do anticipate a few breaks in the clouds early Saturday. Clouds will moderate low temperatures on Saturday morning. Look for lows near 20° in Lincoln.

Friday Night Forecast

Warmer temperatures prevail into the weekend with the 40s returning for high temperatures! We have another big temperature drop coming on Tuesday, with highs returning to the teens. That said, temperatures rebound back to an above-average state by the end of next week.
