After slogan joke, Tourism Commission sending Scott Frost free gear

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost took a friendly jab at the the state tourism commission’s slogan while giving a speech Wednesday.

The slogan, “Honestly, it’s not for everyone,” drew national attention – as well as the attention of Frost.

“That doesn’t really make much sense to me,” the coach said in front of hundreds at Pinnacle Bank Arena, drawing laughs. “It’s like having a restaurant and saying, ‘our food is pretty good, some people like it.'”

With a smile, Frost acknowledged representatives from the Nebraska Tourism Commission were present at the lunch, which was put on the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

Thursday morning, a spokeswoman said the Commission would be sending the Husker coach some free ‘swag’ to help sway his opinion of the slogan – which he said wouldn’t help the team with “recruiting that much.”

Frost actually went on to use the slogan as an analogy to the recruiting process, saying the program is looking for “high character people,” and not those seeking the glitz and glam of a big city.

The slogan drew mixed reviews after its unveiling last October, with references on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Live with Kelly and Ryan.”

The Nebraska Tourism Commission sent mugs bearing to slogan to the show, which Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest used on air.

As for Frost, the spokeswoman said they will likely send him shirts – though she’s not sure whether he’ll be able to wear them since they won’t have an Adidas logo on them.
